Privacy alert - The CIA wants to spy on you through your TV

by J. D. Heyes

(NaturalNews) Anytime you download a movie from Netflix to your television or turn on an Internet-based radio, you could be alerting people who you don't want or need watching you.

According to the Central Intelligence Agency, the organization says spies won't have to plant bugs in homes, businesses or other places where they want to spy because of coming advances in computer and Internet technology. Specifically, CIA Director David Petraeus, one-time commander of the Iraq and Afghanistan war theaters, says new apps and the rise of "connected" devices means people, essentially, will be bugging their own homes.

The CIA says it is very possible the agency and others will be able to "read" these and other gadgets from outside the places they want to monitor via the Internet and perhaps even with radio waves outside your home.

Nowadays, everything can be controlled by an app - your home security system, a clock radio, remote controls, the lighting in your kitchen. And, according to Wired magazine's online "Danger Zone" blog, it's going to get better - or worse, depending on your point of view. Computer-chip maker ARM recently unveiled low-powered, cheaper chips which can and will be used in virtually everything, including refrigerators, doorbells and ovens.

'Transformational'

The resulting flood of app-controlled devices will be able to be easily read and even manipulated and controlled, Petraeus said, adding that the technology will allow agents to spy without having to plant bugs, breaking or entering or engaging in other risky (or illegal?) behavior. Spies, instead, will simply monitor activity through existing apps in use by the subject.

"Transformational is an overused word, but I do believe it properly applies to these technologies," Petraeus said in comments made to a venture capital firm looking at new technologies that could transform previously dumb appliances into an interconnected "Internet of things."

"Particularly to their effect on clandestine tradecraft. Items of interest will be located, identified, monitored, and remotely controlled through technologies such as radio-frequency identification, sensor networks, tiny embedded servers, and energy harvesters - all connected to the next-generation internet using abundant, low-cost, and high-power computing," he said, "the latter now going to cloud computing, in many areas greater and greater supercomputing, and, ultimately, heading to quantum computing."

He acknowledged that these devices and the technology to use them to spy "change our notions of secrecy" and triggers a rethink of "our notions of identity and secrecy."

'Mapping' our lives?

Those like Petraeus who are looking at the future say they believe someday such devices will be able to tell what modes of operation they are in at all times, and that they will be able to be mapped as efficiently as Google Maps charts the world right now. All of the devices that could be made into these so-called smart gadgets would become a wealth of information to spies if you are a "person of interest" - or not, critics contend. The advent of so-called smart homes would mean occupants would be continually sending out specific, geolocated information that spies can intercept in real time.

As you might expect, though, such technology has already alarmed privacy advocates. Already groups such as the Electronic Freedom Foundation (EFF) have filed suit against the CIA and other government agencies for allegedly using social media networks to spy on people.

"Social-networking sites are becoming a part of the way we communicate every day and everyone thinks they are sharing information [on the sites] with just their friends," Shane Witnov, a law student who worked on the case in 2009 on behalf of the EFF by the Samuelson Law, Technology, and Public Policy Clinic at the University of California Berkeley School of Law. "Governments are using the sites but not in the way [citizens] expect when they sign up."

French pine bark contains powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that ease symptoms of chronic disorders like arthritis, asthma

by Jonathan Benson, staff writer

(NaturalNews) An antioxidant-rich nutrient with powerful anti-inflammatory properties, French pine bark extract, also commonly known as Pycnogenol, is hailed by many as an effective treatment for asthma, osteoarthritis, chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and many other chronic diseases. And based on the myriad research that has been conducted on French pine bark over the years, all of this and more appear to be true of the nutrient.

French pine bark for treating osteoarthritis, joint pain

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study published in the Journal of Phytotherapy Research found that French pine bark is capable of reducing osteoarthritis, joint, and various other chronic pain. Compared to patients taking a placebo, those supplementing with 100 milligrams (mg) of Pycnogenol experienced a 56 percent reduction in osteoarthritis pain after just three months.

Additionally, these patients also experienced a 55 percent improvement in joint pain; a 63 percent improvement in gastrointestinal problems; a 53 percent reduction in overall stiffness; and a 57 percent improvement in physical function. Overall, the Pycnogenol group also experienced a 64 percent improvement in health and well-being (http://www.arthritistoday.org).

Similarly, a study out of Germany published in the journal Phytotherapy Research found that French pine bark extract taken by participants at 150 mg for three months dramatically reduced their arthritic and joint pains (http://www.reuters.com). According to Dr. Peter Rohdewald, the study's author, Pycnogenol appears to work better than non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) at providing lasting and sustained pain relief (http://www.reuters.com).

French pine bark for treating asthma

Many asthma sufferers have had great success treating their condition with French pine bark extract, including individuals that participated in a 2005 study presented to the American Thoracic Society. This double-blind, placebo-controlled study revealed that many children with asthma who took French pine bark extract were able to discontinue use of their rescue inhalers because of dramatic improvements.

According to the Swedish researchers who presented the study, combining Pycnogenol with vitamin C and a natural enzyme helps further boost the extract's benefits in treating asthma symptoms. And unlike inhalers, Pycnogenol does not cause any negative side effects (http://www.globenewswire.com/newsroom/?d=79859).

French pine bark for treating chronic venous insufficiency (CVI)

Every year, roughly half a million people living in the U.S. develop leg ulcers as a result of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), a circulatory condition where veins are unable to pump enough blood back to the heart. But a study published in the journal Clinical and Applied Thrombosis/Hematosis found that CVI patients who supplement with French pine bark extract can experience a dramatic improvement in blood flow.

According to the study's findings, Pycnogenol works better than Daflon, a combination pharmaceutical drug made from diosmin and hesperidin, at reducing edema (leg swelling), tight calves, skin alterations, swelled limbs, and painful walking (http://www.pycnogenol.com).

French pine bark for treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

A 2006 randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study published in the journal European Child & Adolescent Psychiatry found that French pine bark's rich array of phenolic acids, catechin, procyanidins and taxifolin can help effectively treat ADHD symptoms.

After just four weeks of taking one mg daily of Pycnogenol, ADHD children experienced a significant reduction in hyperactivity. These same children were also observed to undergo a considerable improvement in attention span, visual-motoric coordination and concentration. And like in the other studies involving Pycnogenol, these participants did not experience any negative side effects (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16699814).

Police and Occupy Wall Street protesters clash at New York park where movement began six months ago

  • Protesters gathered at Zuccotti Park on six-month anniversary of movement
  • Dozens of people handcuffed and led out of park
  • Movement looks to mirror 'Arab Spring' movement, though it has been largely dormant in winter months

On the six-month anniversary of the Occupy Wall Street movement, protesters swarmed its birthplace –Zuccotti Park – again sparking the cat-and-mouse clashes between New York City police officers and demonstrators.

The sweep of the park by police just before midnight capped a day of demonstrations and marching in lower Manhattan. There was no official word on the number of arrests but dozens of people were handcuffed and led out of the park.

Earlier in the day, 15 people were arrested and three officers suffered injuries, police said.

An unused public transit bus was brought in to cart away about a dozen demonstrators in plastic handcuffs.

One female under arrest apparently suffered a seizure and had difficulty breathing. She was taken away in an ambulance to be treated.

For hours, the demonstrators had been chanting and holding impromptu meetings in the park to celebrate the anniversary of the movement that has brought attention to economic inequality, as police mainly kept their distance.

But New York Police Det. Brian Sessa said the tipping point came when the protesters started breaking the park rules.

'They set up tents. They had sleeping bags,' he told the Associated Press. Electrical boxes also were tampered with and there was evidence of graffiti.

Det. Sessa said Brookfield Properties, the park owner, sent in security to advise the protesters to stop pitching tents and to leave the park.

The protesters, in turn, became agitated with them. The company then asked the police to help them clear out the park, the detective said.

Many protesters shouted and officers took out their batons after a demonstrator threw a glass bottle at the bus that police were using to detain protesters.

Sandra Nurse, a member of Occupy's direct action working group, said police treated demonstrators roughly and made arbitrary arrests. She disputed the police assertion that demonstrators had broken park rules by putting up tents or getting out sleeping bags.

'I didn't see any sleeping bags,' she said. 'There was a banner hung between two trees and a tarp thrown over it ... It wasn't a tent. It was an erect thing, if that's what you want to call it.'

She said they had reports of about 25 demonstrators arrested in the police sweep.

Protesters reconvened at the park following afternoon marches through New York's financial district. By 11pm, roughly 300 had gathered there.

'This is our spring offensive,' Michael Premo, 30, of New York told Reuters. He identified himself as a spokesman for the movement.

'People think the Occupy movement has gone away. It's important for people to see we're back.'

Inspired by the pro-democracy Arab Spring, the Wall Street protesters targeted U.S. financial policies they blamed for the yawning income gap between rich and poor in the country, between what they called the one per cent and the 99 per cent.

The demonstrators set up camp in Zuccotti Park on September 17 and sparked a wave of protests across the United States.

Events got under way near midday on Saturday, with street theatre troupes performing and guitar players leading sing-alongs. Some boisterous protesters marched through the streets of the financial district, chanting 'bankers are gangsters' and cursing at police.

As they have in past marches, protesters led police on a series of cat-and-mouse chases. Marchers at the front of the crowd would suddenly turn down narrow side streets, startling tourists and forcing police to send officers on motor scooters to contain the crowd.

The movement has made headlines for its clashes with police after campsites were set up for months in cities from New York to California. The camps were eventually shut down by authorities citing zoning regulations and public health concerns.

In New York, the Occupy movement lost significant momentum in November when a pre-dawn sweep broke up the encampment at Zuccotti, although Occupy protests in Oakland, California, in January led to police firing tear gas into crowds of protesters and more than 200 were arrested.

Protester Paul Sylvester, 24, of Massachusetts said he was 'thrilled' to be back at the park but said he hoped the movement would begin to crystallize around specific goals.

'We need to be more concrete and specific,' he said.

Critics say the Occupy movement lacks direction and clear demands.

It continues to draw celebrities, however. On Saturday night, independent filmmaker Michael Moore strode through the park before the police incursion.

'I think it's great that this movement continues to grow,' Mr Moore said. 'I think the goals are clear. People are concerned that they have no control over their own democracy. They have no control over their own lives.

'This is the beginning. This park is sacred ground for millions across the country.'

As always, the protesters focused on a variety of concerns, but for Tom Hagan, his sights were on the giants of finance.

'Wall Street did some terrible things, especially Goldman Sachs, but all of them. Everyone from the banks to the rating agencies, they all knew they were doing wrong. ... But they did it anyway. Because the money was too big,' he said.

Dressed in an outfit that might have been more appropriate for the St. Patrick's Day parade, the 61-year-old salesman wore a green shamrock cap and carried a sign asking for saintly intervention: 'St. Patrick: Drive the snakes out of Wall Street.'

Chalkupy Wall Street: Earlier in the day, protesters chalked OW-inspired phrases in Zuccotti Park

Stacy Hessler held up a cardboard sign that read, 'Spring is coming,' a reference, she said, both to the Arab Spring and to the warm weather that is returning to New York City.

She said she believes the nicer weather will bring the crowds back to Occupy protests, where numbers have dwindled in recent months since the group's encampment was ousted from Zuccotti Park by authorities in November.

But now, 'more and more people are coming out,' said the 39-year-old, who left her home in Florida in October to join the Manhattan protesters and stayed through much of the winter.

'The next couple of months, things are going to start to grow, like the flowers.'

Some have questioned whether the group can regain its momentum. This month, the finance accounting group in New York City reported that just about $119,000 remained in Occupy's bank account - the equivalent of about two weeks' worth of expenses.

But Ms Hessler said the group has remained strong, and she pronounced herself satisfied with what the Occupy protesters have accomplished over the last half year.

'It's changed the language,' she said. 'It's brought out a lot of issues that people are talking about.

And that's the start of change.'

Unvaccinated people a public health threat? Nope, people who take antibiotics are the real danger

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

(NaturalNews) Vaccine pushers often resort to an interesting fear tactic to try to mandate vaccine obedience among the masses: They insist that those who are unvaccinated are a health threat to the rest of the vaccinated population because the vaccinated people might get infected by the unvaccinated disease carriers!

The quack logic of such a claim should be self-evident. If vaccines protect people from infectious disease, then vaccinated people should not be concerned at all about being around unvaccinated people. After all, the vaccine made them all "immune," right?

But of course that's all propaganda. Vaccines don't really work at all. They are marketed under a blanket of disease hysteria and pimped by a cult following of medicalized quacks and needle junkies who abandoned real science long ago. After all, who needs real science when you've got the CDC marketing all the fear for you? The CDC is to medicine what George Bush was to the war industry -- spread a little fear and the profits roll in.

The real risk to others? People who routinely take antibiotics

As it turns out, the real health risk that does exist in person-to-person exposure of infectious disease comes from people who routinely take antibiotics. Those who take the most antibiotics become drug-resistant bacteria factories, and they can spread their drug-resistant strains to others around them. Their risk of developing superbugs rises proportionally to the frequency and duration of their taking prescription antibiotics. (http://www.naturalnews.com/028479_superbugs_antibiotics.html)

The most dangerous person in your family, it turns out, is not the "unvaccinated" person but the one taking antibiotics! They are human breeding grounds for bacterial mutations that can be downright deadly.

Why hospitals are so dangerous to your health

That's why informed people know the hospital is the most dangerous place you can go, other than working in a homemade meth lab of course. Hospitals are where superbugs pass easily from patient to doctor, and then from doctor to another patient. Hospital superbugs are spread by the medical staff, mostly because they routinely fail to wash their hands before touching patients.

As NaturalNews reported in January, 2010, a whopping 247 people die every day in U.S. hospitals from medical staff failing to wash their hands. (http://www.naturalnews.com/027981_doctors_hand_washing.html)

This is like a jumbo jet falling out of the sky and killing everyone on board every single day. It's like a 9/11 terrorist attacking happening every two weeks. This is one of the most alarming (and preventable) causes of death in America today and virtually no one even talks about it.

Doctors, of course, strongly contribute to the development of superbugs by handing out antibiotics as if they were Halloween candy. Someone shows up at the office with a sniffle, and the busy doctor scribbles out a prescription for some fashionable new antibiotic that earns him perks from the young drug rep whose PC database tracks every name-brand prescription he writes. The patient, meanwhile, spends a pocket fortune on a useless drug that's actually quite dangerous. Not only does it increase that patient's chances of developing a mutant strain of drug-resistant bacteria; it also flushes antibiotics down the drain and contaminates the environment downstream.

So if you're walking around in public suspiciously glancing around to see who might be sniffling or sneezing, clear your head and think about reality for a second. The CDC wants you to stupidly believe all the unvaccinated people are a threat to your health, when in reality people who consciously refuse vaccines tend to be far healthier and get sick far less often than the hypochondriac dweebs who rush out to get vaccinated every few months.

Doctors and drugs are the greatest threat to your health - far greater than terrorism

The real people who are a threat to your health are not just the pill-popping antibiotics consumers, but also:

• The psyched-out grandma on psychotropic drugs barreling down the road behind the wheel of a 1978 Buick. (Driving While Medicated...)

• The teen schoolboy who was diagnosed with depression and put on SSRI drugs that make him feel violently suicidal.

• The pediatrician who wants to inject your child with chemotherapy to "prevent" cancer and insist he's going to call CPS if you don't let him poison your child.

• The drug addict pharmacist who, in between incorrectly filling your prescription with random deadly chemicals, snorts up his own private concoction of controlled substances in the back room.

• The oncologist who misdiagnosed you with breast cancer but wants to poison you with five rounds of chemotherapy "just to be sure." (Oh yeah, I bet he never told you that he PROFITS from selling you the chemotherapy drugs that poison you...)

• The school bus driver with a heart condition who takes an extra dose of deadly statin drugs and suffers a fatal heart muscle breakdown while behind the wheel of a bus carrying 58 schoolchildren toward a railroad crossing.

These are the real threats to your safety... not a bunch of healthy people who deliberately refuse to be injected with hazardous vaccines.

But of course the medical establishment doesn't want you to be aware of any risks associated with using their products. All their drugs are perfectly safe! Perfectly effective! Perfectly priced! Perfectly profitable! There's nothing wrong with them, by God, or the FDA would never have approved them, would they?

Iowa passes outrageous law demanding total secrecy over factory meat filth and cruelty practices

by Ethan A. Huff, staff writer

(NaturalNews) Capturing undercover footage of extreme animal abuse at factory farms is soon to be illegal in Iowa, thanks to the passage of a new bill that squelches First Amendment protections for agricultural whistleblowers. In one of the fastest legislative rush-throughs in history, the "American Heartland" state's House and Senate recently passed House File 589, also known as the "ag-gag" bill, which redefines undercover filming and various other whistle-blowing activities as "agricultural production facility fraud" punishable under the law.

Prior to the passage of the bill, which now sits on Republican Governor Terry Branstad's desk for signing, exposing the horrific conditions in many of Iowa's factory farms was a legally-protected free speech right. Once signed into law, however, H.F. 589 will make Iowa the first state in America to actively muzzle individuals from exposing the ugly truth about what takes place at chicken farms, animal processing plants, and even behemoth genetically-modified (GM) crops farms across the state.

"This flawed and misdirected legislation could set a dangerous precedent nationwide by throwing shut the doors to industrial factory farms and allowing animal abuse, environmental violations, and food contamination issues to flourish undetected, unchallenged and unaddressed," said Nathan Runkle, executive director of the Chicago-based animal rights group Mercy for Animals (MFA), to Food Safety News. "This bill is bad for consumers, who want more, not less, transparency in production of their food."

Without undercover investigations, the horrors of the factory food industry would never see the light of day

Undercover investigations, of course, were responsible for shutting down Hallmark and Westland, a California-based meat packing facility where extreme and highly-disturbing animal abuse was taking place on a regular basis. The company, which was eventually shut down thanks to undercover video footage captured by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), had been supplying tainted meat to public school lunchrooms across the U.S. (http://www.naturalnews.com/028905_school_lunch_beef.html).

You can watch a clip of that investigation at the following link. Be warned, the imagery is deeply disturbing:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaM7Hpu47FY

The sting that led to the ultimate demise of the wretched company responsible for this abuse, however, would not have been possible had an ag-gag bill similar to the one about to be passed in Iowa been in place in California at that time. In simple terms, H.F. 589 is an assault on free speech, and a clear maneuver by the filthy factory farm industry to shield its many horrors from public exposure.

"This law is un-American and a broad government overreach," added Runkle. "It seeks to shield animal abusers from public scrutiny and prosecute the brave whistleblowers who dare to speak out against animal cruelty, environmental pollution and corporate corruption."

You can contact Gov. Branstad's office and urge him to reject H.F. 589 by visiting:

Scriptures To Live By

Revelation 3:20  Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Revelation 6:1-2  And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.

This Scripture discribes the Gospel going forth. Jesus Christ riding a white horse, conquering and to conquer casting our devils.

Revelation 6:4  And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

In this case satan attacks all who bring the Gospel or when truth is proclaimed there is always resistance.
